Biggest Loser MOPS style

So, I'm supposed to be losing weight. My baby is almost 3. It's about time I try to loose the baby weight, right? Well let's just say I've been "trying" to loose weight for about a year. In all actuality I haven't physically done anything about it. I wrote a post on my blog about a year ago, about how I was ready and all the preparations I was making to try and loose weight. Click HERE to read that post later. I weigh exactly the same now that I did then. After the holidays were over our MOPS group started a friendly weight loss competition. I thought, "This is exactly what I need!" I need support, encouragement and a possible $200 reward if I loose the most weight! (If you haven't paid your $20 yet, please do so now. We still have two months left with no holidays that require us to make or eat food or candy!)

My plan was to pay a little more attention to what I put into my mouth and exercise more. My first weigh in approached. I was nervous. I gained 2 pounds! Not lost, but gained. I was so disappointed in myself. Looking back, I really wasn't changing the way I ate. I mostly just THOUGHT about eating better. I was having a constant battle in my brain every single day and it went a little like this......"All right, I am going to eat better today. But, I forgot to buy healthy cereal, so I'll just have to eat this sugary one and make better choices at lunch." Lunch time-"I'm really hungry and kinda tired. I should make a salad, BUT I already made cheese and bean burritos for the kids. I WANT the bean and cheese burrito. I DON'T want a salad." I ate the burrito and finished off my kids leftovers. Dinner time approaches and I do well. Chicken and some vegetables. I may or may not have ate of the kids' plate. We put the kids to bed. An hour later it's desert time. My husband and I like to have desert together, like every night. "Michele, you really shouldn't have dessert tonight, because you didn't make good choices today." Michele turns off the food conscience voice in her head and eats way too much ice cream. This went on day after day, after day. Even after I had gained two pounds.

I still wasn't completely motivated after that weigh in. Sometimes, losing weight is really hard. It's easy to just give in and eat whatever you want. About 3 weeks ago a few very important things happen to seriously motivate me to try harder.

1. I take a photo of my backside. Fully clothed, mind you. (And no, I will never post that picture. You can thank me later.) My backside is much bigger than it appeared to me in my head. I proceed to go for a jog as soon as my husband gets home from work.

2. My friend comes over for a play date. This friend has also entered the MOPS biggest loser competition. We talk about how good food choices are really hard to make. I tell her about a new ice cream company that has come to town and how it's the most amazing ice cream I've ever had. She buys the ice cream and tells me about it! I feel horrible that I tempted my friend, who's also trying to loose weight! (Lisa, I'm so sorry! I want you to know that I felt so bad that I threw my yummy favorite ice cream in the trash. ) What if we had talked about what yummy salads we were having and how we were fitting exercise in with having small kids to take care of?

3. I realize that every time I make something that is super fattening, think bacon gravy that I added a 1/2 cup of butter to, I sing 'Baby Got Back' by Sir Mixalot to myself. I would really like for "I like big butts and I cannot lie" to NOT be my theme song anymore!

I am very excited for tomorrow's weigh in. I have had a plan for the last 3 weeks and I have stuck to it. I'm counting calories and only eating 1200 a day. (Except Easter. I may have eaten two carrot cake cupcakes and a gigantic steak, but who's counting? Oh right, I am.) I'm also exercising 4-5 days a week. I have a Jillian Micheal's DVD that I use when going for a jog by myself is out of the question. Anyways, my point in all of this, is that if we encourage one another and we really want to do this......we CAN do it. We have two months left. We are mothers of preschoolers and we can do this. If you loose a few pounds don't be afraid to share! When others hear that you have lost weight, it's encouraging! (My sister-in-law from California joined Weigh Watchers 4 weeks ago and she's lost 16 pounds!)

I would love if you would share what you are trying to do to lose weight. You can either leave a comment at the end of this post, where it says 'post a comment', or you can email me at staples_michele@yahoo.com and I will make a separate post of your comments/questions.

We CAN do this ladies! I'm convinced Mothers can do anything they put their mind to! Just think, you could win $200 towards new clothes! I don't know about you, but it's been a long time since I've spent $200 dollars on clothes for myself!
